WASHINGTON, D.C. – Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) today issued the following statement in response to the Senate’s release of reconciliation language in the “One Big Beautiful Bill”:
The Constitution is not a mere suggestion—it is the “supreme Law of the Land.” Unfortunately, many members of Congress need to start acting like it.
We are deeply disappointed that the original Senate Finance Committee language — which would have removed suppressors, short-barreled rifles, and other protected arms from the unconstitutional stranglehold of the National Firearms Act — was removed from the final Senate package. Worse still, these common-sense — and constitutionally required — reforms were gutted by Senators bowing to the non-binding advice of the Senate Parliamentarian, an unelected bureaucrat. It is utterly disgraceful and unacceptable that the Senate allowed a career staffer with no lawmaking authority to stand between peaceable Americans and their constitutionally protected rights.
All Members of Congress take an oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States…” FPC calls on Congress to fulfill that oath, starting with these critical actions:
? The Senate must dismiss the current Parliamentarian and install someone who serves the body –– not obstructs it –– with integrity and constitutional fidelity, not activist overreach.
? Congress must fix and pass H.R. 38, the “Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act," so that peaceable people can exercise their right to bear arms freely.
? Congress must repeal the National Firearms Act and remove constitutionally protected arms from this crushing and punitive regulatory scheme.
Republicans in the House and Senate have a generational opportunity to deliver on their promise to protect the one right that protects all of the others. But American gun owners are tired of empty campaign promises. If Congress won’t stand up for our rights in this critical moment, then gun owners will have no reason to stand up for them.
