Dead Air Silencers Applauds ATF Guidance Ending Registration and Approval Requirements for Suppressor, SBR, and SBS Transfers

Dead Air Silencers, manufacturer of the next evolution in quiet, purpose-built suppressors, welcomes the ATF's newly issued guidance on National Firearms Act transfers. This guidance is a long-overdue step for American gun owners and the firearms industry, and it represents a much-needed step in the ongoing effort to secure and hold ground on our collective 2nd Amendment right.

Under the guidance, ATF will not enforce the requirement that individuals apply for and receive ATF approval before making or transferring short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, suppressors, and certain "any other weapons." ATF also will not enforce the NFA's registration, tax-stamp or related requirements for those items. The guidance follows Congress's reduction of the Federal making and transfer tax on these items from $200 to $0 that went into effective January 1, 2026, and a Federal court ruling in August.

"The acquisition of hearing protection devices shouldn't require government permission and complicated registration process," said Jared Rehm, Director of Marketing at Dead Air Silencers. "This change removes a barrier that has existed since 1934, and it moves the process closer to what our consumers have been waiting for: a clear, predictable path to owning a product that makes shooting safer and more enjoyable. We're grateful to everyone who helped bring it about."

Suppressors are legal to own in many states across the country. They not only protect shooters from hearing damage, but they can also reduce recoil and muzzle blast. By declining enforcement of the previous approval process, the guidance makes these products more accessible to responsible gun owners.

Dead Air reminds customers that some requirements remain:

Dead Air Silencers will continue working with its dealer network as the ATF develops further guidance.
