FPC Files Opening Brief in Challenge to Mass. Handgun Roster, AG Handgun Sales Regulations

BOSTON, MA – Today, Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) announced the filing of an opening brief with the First Circuit Court of Appeals in Granata v. Healey, which challenges the Massachusetts Approved Firearms Roster and the Attorney General's Handgun Sales Regulations. The brief can be viewed at FPCLegal.org.

“To be sure, Massachusetts’s prohibition on the commercial sale of common handguns qualifies as a ban,” argues the brief. “Massachusettsans—including Plaintiffs—are left only with the hopes of finding such arms through a secondhand market, where they lack knowledge of the seller or control over the price or condition of the firearm, if the firearm is available at all.”

“The Constitution protects all arms in common use,” said FPC Director of Legal Operations Bill Sack. “There is no historical tradition in this Country of limiting the marketplace of available arms to that small fraction which has jumped through the arbitrary statutory and regulatory hoops of anti-liberty state actors.”
