Les Baer Custom Commanche In May/June Handgunner

Les Bear guns are known literally around the world over for their reliability, accuracy, style and predictable consistency. The May/June issue of American Handgunner features a Commanche in 10mm based on the company’s Custom Carry model.

FMG Special Projects Editor Roy Huntington lends, “To pick up this Commanche is to pick up something familiar. It’s as if it’s waiting to do your bidding.”

The test gun is a new offering from the Baer shop and offers a sort of distilled list of features and benefits that work well together. From the 4.25" slide to the full-sized frame and adjustable sight, the combination of parts, carefully assembled by a dedicated team, yields the feeling of being right at home in your hand.

Will Dabbs, MD contends Shadow Systems’ Foundation Series guns are premium products configured for everyday real-world applications. In “The BMW Of Combat Handguns,” he touts the series’ many features, including interchangeable backstraps; drop-safe, flat-faced triggers; match-grade barrels; steel sights and multi-footprint optic cut.

From SAR USA, a SAR9 SOCOM tops the May/June gun of the month giveaway package. The 9mm includes a wide trigger surface, polymer grip module, 5.2" threaded barrel, optic-ready cutout slide, Picatinny rail and comes in a Special Forces green color. The winner will also receive a Headrest Safe and a Cargo knife from Kershaw Knives. Valued at nearly $1,151, readers are encouraged to enter the free drawing at AmericanHandgunner.com/giveaways.

Elsewhere in the May/June issue, Clayton Walker sets out to help readers better understand handgun recoil with insights on grip and grip material, size, weight, ergonomics, action and slide (and more!) in “When Push Comes To Shove.” In Tactics & Training, Tiger McKee discusses “Threat Response Fundamental No. 4: Shoot … If Necessary” — with the critical reminder that you shoot to stop the threat, not to “kill.” Pat Covert highlights the arc of success Emerson Knives has had in its 25 years of business perfecting the design of tactical folding knives.
