Guidefitter, the online marketplace for hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreational gear, fueled by the opinions of thousands of pro guides and other outdoor professionals, today announced that Russ Lumpkin has joined the company as editor of the Guidefitter Journal which is the industry trade publication for professional guides and outfitters first published by Guidefitter in 2016 and is distributed quarterly to thousands of outdoor industry professionals.
Russ started his career in the outdoor industry in 1996 as a writer and photographer for the National Wild Turkey Federation, one of Guidefitter’s Partners in Conservation, and has more than 25 years experience in editorial positions for multiple outdoor-industry publications including American Angler, Fly Tyler, Saltwater Fly Fishing, Sporting Classics, and Alaska. Prior to joining Guidefitter, Lumpkin was the editor of Gray’s Sporting Journal.
“Guidefitter has been a trailblazer in the outdoor industry ever since its inception and pioneered the industry’s first, and only, trade publication specifically written to help professional guides and outfitters become more informed about their industry, better at their craft, and operate more successful businesses,” said Lumpkin. “From the beginning, the Journal has maintained extremely high standards for producing a quality publication with relevant content for the pro guiding industry, and I’m delighted to join and carry on that responsibility as editor, working alongside other Guidefitter staff, members, and brand partners.”
In addition to being the editor of the Guidefitter Journal, Russ will also be overseeing other content initiatives at Guidefitter, including managing and continuing to build Guidefitter’s expansive network of freelance writers for the Journal and for other content available to the broader Guidefitter community at guidefitter.com. Russ lives in Augusta, Georgia, along with his family.
