The Engineering Behind the Kinect Tool-Free Mounting System

Seymour, CT — In the world of modern rifle accessories, modularity has become one of the most valued characteristics of a firearm platform. While mounting standards such as M-LOK have helped shooters configure their rifles with greater flexibility, the process of installing and adjusting accessories has traditionally remained dependent on tools and hardware.

Recognizing this challenge, Kinetic Development Group engineered the Kinect™ Series, a patented mounting system designed to maintain the strength of traditional hard mounts while eliminating the need for tools during installation.

Unlike conventional M-LOK accessories that rely on screws and T-nuts, Kinect mounts use a spring-loaded wedge locking mechanism that engages directly with the M-LOK interface.

When the mount is pressed into position, the internal locking wedges automatically expand within the rail slot, creating a secure mechanical interface between the accessory and the handguard. This system allows the mount to lock firmly into place in seconds while distributing load across the rail surface to maintain stability under recoil and sustained use.

"The engineering challenge was finding a way to maintain the strength shooters expect from a hard mount while removing the need for tools," said Chris Bardugone, Director of Sales and Marketing at KDG. "We didn't want to compromise durability just to gain convenience."

The result is a mounting system that allows accessories to be installed or removed instantly with the press of a finger while maintaining a secure lockup comparable to traditional mounting hardware.

This design has allowed the Kinect Series to become a core part of KDG's accessory lineup, particularly for shooters who frequently adjust their rifle configurations.

By improving the interaction between accessories and the M-LOK interface, Kinect demonstrates how thoughtful engineering can enhance an already successful platform.

"Kinect doesn't replace M-LOK," Bardugone explained. "It simply improves the user experience and allows shooters to take full advantage of the modularity that the system was designed to provide."
