Seymour, CT — Over the past decade, the M-LOK interface has become the dominant mounting system for modern rifle handguards. Its slim profile, lightweight construction, and flexible accessory placement have made it a preferred solution for shooters seeking highly modular rifle platforms.
While the system itself has proven highly effective, Kinetic Development Group believes that innovation within the accessory ecosystem can further enhance the capabilities of the platform.
That philosophy helped drive the development of the Kinect™ Series, a mounting system designed to improve how accessories interact with the M-LOK interface while preserving the strengths that made the platform successful.
Traditional M-LOK accessories rely on mechanical fasteners that clamp T-nuts against the backside of the rail slot. This design provides excellent retention and durability, but it also requires tools and careful alignment during installation.
For shooters who frequently adjust their rifle setups, this process can become a barrier to experimentation and adaptation.
KDG's approach with Kinect was not to replace M-LOK, but to enhance it.
The patented Kinect mounting system allows accessories to attach instantly through a spring-loaded wedge mechanism that locks securely into the M-LOK slot when the mount is pressed into position.
Once engaged, the internal wedges expand to create a rigid mechanical interface that holds the accessory firmly in place.
This design allows users to remove or reposition accessories in seconds while maintaining the strength and reliability expected from a traditional mounting solution.
"Kinect was designed around a simple idea," said Chris Bardugone, Director of Sales and Marketing at KDG. "M-LOK made rifles more modular. Our goal was to make that modularity easier to take advantage of."
The benefits of this approach become especially clear when shooters are configuring rifles for different roles.
A rifle used for training may require different accessories than one configured for competition, hunting, or nighttime use. Traditional mounting hardware can make these adjustments slow because tools are required every time an accessory is moved.
With Kinect, those changes can be made instantly.
This capability encourages shooters to experiment with accessory placement and find configurations that best suit their shooting style or mission requirements.
The Kinect product lineup includes several accessory mounting solutions designed to work within the M-LOK ecosystem, including Picatinny rail adapters and other accessory mounts that allow users to integrate a wide range of equipment onto their rifle platforms.
By combining tool-free installation with a secure mechanical interface, the Kinect Series demonstrates how thoughtful engineering can improve the usability of an already successful platform.
"M-LOK changed the industry by giving shooters a better way to mount accessories," Bardugone said. "Kinect builds on that idea by making it faster and more convenient to configure those accessories."
As modular rifle platforms continue to evolve, systems like Kinect illustrate how innovation within the accessory space can further expand the versatility of modern firearms.
