JERICHO, Vt. – Registration for the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s (CMP) annual New England Highpower Rifle and Travel Games is now open. Set for Sept. 14-20, 2020, the popular rifle and pistol competition event is held at the Camp Ethan Allen National Guard Training Site and is hosted by the Vermont National Guard and the Vermont State Rifle and Pistol Association (VSRPA).

Competition begins with the CMP Highpower Rifle Matches, formally known as Cup Matches, which include two days of 80 Shot Aggregate competitions, a 4-Man Team event and a Service Rifle Excellence-In-Competition (EIC) Match.

Next up, the Rifle Marksmanship 101 class (previously known as the Small Arms Firing School) will offer a hands-on learning opportunity in the classroom and on the firing line. Students in the class will learn gun safety, target shooting skills, positioning, basic rifle mechanics and will also participate in live fire on the range in a true M16 EIC match. Likewise, a Pistol Marksmanship 101 class will be offered, covering the same points as the rifle clinic and featuring an M9 EIC Match at the conclusion. All firearms and equipment will be provided for the class.

The rest of the New England Games event consists of a mix of CMP Games matches – recreational-style marksmanship competitions like the Garand/Springfield/Vintage and Modern Military (GSM) rifle events, Carbine and Vintage Sniper rifle matches, as well as a GSM New Shooter Clinic for those wanting to learn more about the fundamentals of the match.

For pistol enthusiasts, an As-Issued 1911 Pistol, Military & Police Service Pistol, Pistol Two-Man Team matches and Pistol EIC and .22 Rimfire Pistol EIC matches will provide extra competition opportunities to individuals of all ages and experience levels.
