The Michigan Department of Natural Resources honors 17 fallen conservation officers during National Police Week (May 11-17). The Michigan Conservation Officers Association and DNR dedicated a memorial at the Ralph A. MacMullan Conference Center in Roscommon, recently adding Conservation Officer Paul Durham as the 17th officer after historians discovered records of his 1972 death.

This week the DNR Division of Law Enforcement’s K-9 Resource Protection Program kicked off its nine-week training school at Atterbury Fish and Wildlife Area in Johnson County.

A federal grand jury in Los Angeles has unsealed an indictment accusing five defendants of conspiring to unlawfully export thermal imaging riflescopes and night-vision goggles without a license, in violation of the Arms Export Control Act.

Hasher Jallal Taheb, 23, of Cumming, Georgia, has pleaded guilty to planning an attack on the White House using weapons and explosives. As part of the plea agreement, the defendant and the government agreed that the defendant should receive a 15-year sentence of imprisonment.

Between 2013 and 2018, CDFW has removed more than 2.4 million feet of irrigation pipe, 50 tons of fertilizer and 65 gallons of chemicals (many illegal in the U.S.) on black market grows. On Wednesday, multiple agencies conducted a Preparedness Training Exercise at various locations throughout metropolitan Richmond. The purpose of this exercise was to test local, state, and federal responses to potential incidents at locations such as colleges, airports, and transportation facilities. At various times throughout the day, citizens may have noticed an increase in the presence of law enforcement personnel or vehicles at certain locations; where appropriate, precautionary measures were taken to advise the public that a training exercise was underway.

The United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida announced the sentencing of Vladimir Louissant, of Miami Gardens; Victoria Barkley, of Miami Gardens; and Byron Kyler, of Miami, in connection with the August 21, 2011 shooting death of a Brinks guard at the Calder Casino and Race Course (Calder) in North Miami, Florida.

The Justice Department's Office of Justice Programs (OJP) plans to invest more than $20 million to strengthen the firearm background check system by improving states' abilities to share information with the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). OJP's Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) and Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) are providing funding for three grants to support state, territorial and tribal efforts to reduce information gaps and make instantly available to NICS all records prohibiting the purchase or possession of firearms.

A convicted felon who trafficked in multiple high-powered firearms has been sentenced in U.S. District Court in Seattle to 66 months in prison and three years of supervised release for conspiracy to unlawfully deal in firearms and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

A complete shutdown of the Pennsylvania Instant Check System by the state police for a period of 60 hours later this month for a system upgrade is "inexcusable," the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.
