Shooting Industry – Handgun Sales And L.E./Tactical Gear Trends

The May issue of Shooting Industry profiles the handgun market and highlights law enforcement and tactical trends. In "Handgun Resurgence," Shooting Industry Editor Jade Moldé examines the state of the handgun market after the sales downturn of 2014, and receives insight on the market from Charles Brown, owner of MKS Supply.

"The handgun market has recovered, with the entire market taking a big correction last summer that ran through November 2014. After that, the handgun market started recovering, slowly," Brown said. "The defensive firearm and revolver market has been the least affected by the correction the market went through."

Carolee Anita Boyles provides a detailed look at the L.E. and tactical gear introduced at SHOT Show 2015, asking dealers to identify their show favorites. In optics, the Leupold D-EVO stood out to several dealers.

"The D-EVO is a 6x20mm platform that looks around existing red-dot or holographic sights," said Tim Lesser, Leupold director of product development. "This eliminates the need for flip-out magnifiers, and allows the shooter to use both optics simultaneously, without adjusting cheek weld. The reticle compensates for bullet drop out to 600 meters and also compensates for the lateral offset of the D-EVO around the other sight."

The included Law Enforcement & Tactical New Product Showcase highlights a range of products from firearms, ammunition and flashlights to ear protection, vests and knives.

The May issue also includes Lisa Parsons-Wraith's insight on utilizing technology and training to cater to women customers, Massad Ayoob's advice on expanding accessories sales with versatile products and Taylor Smithfield's rundown of using social media to increase a dealer's bottom line and customer loyalty.
