NRA Family InSights seeks Assistant Editor

LOCATION: This position works at NRA Headquarters in Fairfax, VA

Provides editorial and search engine optimization (SEO) and marketing (SEM) essential to the content of the NRA FAMILY INSIGHTS web properties. Work must be performed in an accurate and punctual manner, ensuring that it satisfies established quality standards and policies and meets production deadlines.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assists with the editorial content of the NRA FAMILY INSIGHTS web properties during all phases of production.
2. Must be proficient with social media, providing inbound and outbound marketing on social network sites such as Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and other social-media related sites.
3. Implements SEO-related features, including keywords, metadata, article descriptions and related tags.
4. Researches and identifies one-way linking possibilities for web content.
5. Performs keyword research, and identifies areas for potential marketing and revenue success and opportunities.
6. Develops and implements SEM strategies and reports on results weekly.
7. Coordinates with Managing Editor in the selection of material.
8. Procures images for web use.
9. Proofreads and edits the magazine's web properties during all stages of production.
10. Assists with monitoring/moderating visitor posts and contributions.
11. Writes copy, headlines, subheads and captions.
12. Travels as assigned; extended hours required.

SCOPE: Coordinates with Managing Editor and Senior Graphic Designer, NRA FAMILY INSIGHTS. Also coordinates with Web Operations Department, other departments within NRA Publications and other NRA divisions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: College degree in Journalism, English or Communications, or equivalent work experience. One to two years experience in the production of a magazine's or newspaper's website. Working knowledge of best practices as they relate to SEO and SEM. Working knowledge of the shooting sports and the Second Amendment issue desired.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Ability to edit intelligently and effectively. Ability to write clearly and concisely. Proven writing and editing skills together with knowledge of magazine website design and content. Attention to detail and organization mandatory. Strong working knowledge of HTML and popular Content Management Software. Working knowledge of social networking sites and the ability to assist in development of Search Engine Marketing (SEM) strategies. Working knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Ability to implement current SEO/SEM practices. Ability to work within strict guidelines and under pressure, take direction and meet strict deadlines, and carry several projects through to completion simultaneously. Ability to work with minimum supervision. Working, hands-on knowledge of word processing software and electronic publishing necessary.
