American COP May Issue Highlights Dependable Flashlights

From gun-mounted and pocket lights to headlamps, the May issue of American COP features a broad spectrum of durable flashlights equipped to accompany officers. In "Lighting Up Your Beat," contributing editor Aimee Grant reviews a variety of quality light options on the market for beat cops - from Safariland, Viridian, BLACKHAWK!, SureFire and more.

"At an honest 1,000 lumens, SureFire's new P3X Fury is compact, made of aircraft-grade aluminum, uses three CR123 batteries, weighs 7.2 ounces and is about 6.8" long," Grant writes. "It's a great second light for a duty cop to wear on their belt. It'll light up a parking lot, canyon, city street, back lot, inside of a movie theatre or an aircraft carrier flight deck."

Craig Allen and Contributing Editor Ralph Mroz discuss a new approach in "Active Shooter Response," explaining why the first generation techniques are no longer considered effective while also breaking down how new protocols are being utilized.

"The Rapid Treatment Model appears to overcome the shortfalls of the traditional active shooter response methods," Allen and Mroz suggest. "It's time to change, focusing on our common interest of saving lives and exploiting our strengths, not adding tactics and techniques to exacerbate the friction and fog these incidents produce."

Additional features in the May issue of American COP include a resourceful guide for avoiding pitfalls when filing for disability retirement as well as how to "single-handedly" maintain your AR-15.

The headliner of the May Gun of the Month giveaway, courtesy of DoubleTap Defense, is the DoubleTap Tactical .45 ACP Pocket Pistol, which also includes a 9mm non-ported conversion kit for added versatility. Valued at over $900, the package also includes the 1170 fitted hard case by Pelican, FirstSpear ankle holster and DeSantis leather pocket holster.
