Daniel Defense DELTA 5 In October GUNS

Too Much Is Just Right — Daniel Defense DELTA 5 In October GUNS

Editor Brent Wheat admittedly goes “full-on starry-eyed fanboy” in his review of the new DELTA 5 bolt-action rifle from Daniel Defense in the October issue ofGUNS Magazine.

“The DELTA 5 is one of the best precision rifles I’ve shot in a long time at any price,” he confesses.

Setting it apart from traditional bolt-action rifles, the DELTA 5 features an innovative barrel-mounting system. Additional high-end specs include a stainless steel Heavy Palma-contour threaded barrel, stainless action with integral recoil lug and a 20-MOA Picatinny rail and an adjustable single-stage Timney Elite Hunter trigger.

For “a serious competitor, law enforcement sniper or long-range hunter, the DELTA 5 could well offer the best cost/benefit ratio in a current bolt-action rifle. … not inexpensive, but a serious tool for serious practitioners,” Brent says.

SCCY’s .380 ACP CPX-3 encapsulates founder Joe Roebuck’s concept of designing a functional, reliable and easily manufactured firearm and, according to Will Dabbs, MD, “polishes it to perfection.” He recounts the company’s origins and newest offering in the popular compact handgun category. “If you’re on a budget, the SCCY CPX-3 represents a great value,” he contends, “even if money is not so tight, the CPX-3 offers reliability on par with the ‘Other Guys,’ along with American-made pride of ownership.”

This month’s Firearms Package Giveaway is topped by a Rock Island Armory TAC Ultra FS 1911. Among its many features, the TAC Ultra is chambered in .45 ACP, has a 5" button-rifled barrel, full tactical rail, 8-round capacity and high-visibility fiber optic front sight. October’s winner will also receive a CEO knife from CRKT and TX14R flashlight from COAST. Combined, the package is valued at $945. More features in October include why GLOCK’s recently introduced G48 9mm answers the yearning of three decades of GLOCK users in Massad Ayoob’s “Silver Slide Slim,” while Mark Hampton praises the Savage Arms Model 110 High Country’s custom features for serious hunters at “discount store prices.” October’sOptics column addresses why more magnification isn’t always better when it comes to binoculars. The Shotguns installment details impressive technologies from Savage, Federal and Stevens shaping today’s turkey hunt. And lever-lover John Taffin wrestles with the eternal question: Marlin or Winchester? The clever answer is nothing short of his “classic” advice in Campfire Tales.
