October issue of S.W.A.T. Magazine

The October issue of S.W.A.T. Magazine has already shipped to subscribers and will hit newsstands everywhere September 1.

One of the most talked-about firearms of the year is the new Ruger Precision Rifle. S.W.A.T. was among a select few who were able to shoot this rifle before its official introduction to the public in July. Three days at the FTW Ranch in Texas shooting at distances from 100 to 2,000 yards, convinced us that the Precision Rifle would be hard to beat at any price (and this rifle's price point is very low!).

The October S.W.A.T. Sweepstakes is a serious sweepstakes for serious shotgunners: enter to win a Mossberg 590, Magpul stock and forend, Hornady buckshot and slugs, and TacStar SideSaddle shell carrier.

While new guns drive the industry, it's always good to look at the past. Hop in the S.W.A.T. time machine and take a close look at the archetypal World War II submachine gun—the German MP40.

Whether you call yourself a prepper, a survivalist or simply a prepared citizen, most of our readers know the importance of being ahead of the game in terms of readiness. We cover survival's Big Seven must-have basics. Many are likely already in your home. Read about the numerous uses these products have.

Piston-operated AR-15-type rifles are all the rage. They run cooler, cleaner, and subjectively have less recoil. Most are also very expensive, but there is a workaround—a kit that will transform your direct-impingement design into a piston-operated rifle. Read the easy "do it yourself" instructions, and with a minimal cash outlay, you'll be shooting a piston-operated rifle in no time!

In other features, we examine the feasibility of using a patrol rifle as an intermediate sniper rifle, evaluate the Beretta M92FS Compact pistol, and take a hard look at negligent discharges. All this and more, including S.W.A.T.'s must-read columns.
