American Handgunner Sept/Oct Features STI 1911s

Fun comes in threes in Handgunner's September/October cover story, which highlights a capable trio of STI 1911s. Examining three guns with three distinct roles, Publisher Roy Huntington had several positive things to say after handling STI's Tactical SS, DVC Limited 2011 and Escort.

"I honestly couldn't decide which of our test guns is my favorite. Each has a comfortable home doing different jobs. The Tactical is the 'most' cross-over of the trio, with the DVC Limited clearly a competition/target gun," Roy says. "The Escort is clearly made for one thing — personal protection. And there's no doubt in my mind this gun can handle that serious job."

In "The Sound Of Silence," Will Dabbs makes his assessment on the merits of shooting with suppressors — including how they enhance safety and are useful in welcoming new shooters.

"There is great practical utility to a sound suppressor. Noise pollution is diminished and suppressor owners make better neighbors as a result," Dabbs says. "Nothing is better than a suppressed .22 for introducing neophyte shooters to the sport. The lack of hearing protection facilitates communication and enhances safety."
