CAMP PERRY, Ohio – Victor Betzold, 60, of Bel Air, MD, left the 2015 National Matches with more than just memories – he also left with a trunk full of plaques and donated rifle supplies after placing or firing a high score in virtually every CMP Games Match during rifle week.

Betzold is no stranger to shooting – beginning in junior high and firing well into college, then taking his love for guns into the Army. After the years went on and work and family became higher priorities, he fell away from the sport he loved. But now that he's retired, he's had time to practice again – practice that has certainly paid off.

"It feels great," he said. "I've been working at this for a long time."

During his remarkable showing at the National Games Matches, he set a new National Record and won the Carbine Match with a score of 375-6x. He was also the high senior of the event.

Also setting a new National Record was the high junior of the Carbine match, Mark Stout II, 17, of Waterford, MI, with an outstanding score of 362-5x.

In the National Garand Match, Betzold fired a score of 290-7x to become the overall winner of a field of 1213 competitors. Betzold was also the high senior of the event. Gabe Rampy, 17, of Bremen, GA, was the high junior of the match with a score of 287-8x.

Mark Aussieker, 44, of Wenona, IL, was the overall leader in the National Springfield Match, with a score of 294-7x. High junior of the event was Joseph Albany, 20, of High Point, NC, who fired a score of 282-2x, as Victor Betzold again overtook the high senior honor. A total of 739 competitors entered the Springfield Match.

During the Vintage Military Match, Matthew Slocum, 34, of Philadelphia, PA, used his M1917 to fire a score of 289-6x for the win. Sean Stuckey, 16, of Van Wert, OH, was the high junior of the match, firing a score of 271-2x with his K31. Donald LaBeff, 60, of Saginaw, MI, earned the spot of high senior after firing a score of 288-3x – also with a K31. The event saw 488 entries.

Victor Betzold, with his outstanding performances in the Garand and Springfield Matches, as well as an exceptional seventh place finish in the Vintage Military Match, claimed the 3-Gun Aggregate title for the second year in a row – with a combined score of 865-19x.
