Glock's Sevigny Nails Practical Shooting Doubleheader
SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. - With both the U.S. Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) Area 1 and Area 5 Regional Championships on the schedule this past weekend, one in Idaho and the other in Michigan, taking one title would have been hard enough. Taking both, well that's something most shooters would find near impossible.

Unless of course the shooter in question is captain of the Glock shooting team, Dave Sevigny.

Regarded as one of the best shooters in the world, Sevigny managed to produce near identical performances as he won nine of the 12 stages at the Area 1 match at the Parma Rod & Gun Club in Parma, Idaho, and nine of the 15 stages at the Area 5 match the South Kent Sportsman's Club in Dorr, Mich., on his way to capturing both Production division titles.

In Idaho Sevigny faced off against six other Grand Masters and six Masters, the two highest skill levels in the sport of Practical Shooting, as he defeated second place finisher Yong Lee of Snohomish, Wash., by over 206 points with a final score of 1316.1640.

In the Area 5 match, Sevigny, who lives in Smyrna, Ga. where he works for Austrian-based firearms maker Glock, was up against three other Grand Masters and three Masters. Sevigny ended the competition with a final score of 1399.0528 which was good enough to outpace second place shooter Ben Stoeger of Eau Claire, Wis., by almost 96 points.

With this weekend's doubleheader victory, Sevigny has won three of the eight USPSA regional Production division titles on the 2009 calendar. Earlier this year he won the Area 6 Production Championship.

The sport of Practical Shooting was formally established in 1976 but traces its roots back to the 1950's and the quick draw "leather slap" competitions that grew out of America's love affair with the TV westerns of that era. Today the sport represents the upper echelon of the shooting sports with many of its top shooters actively training law enforcement and military units on shooting techniques and equipment developed in competition.

About USPSA: The United States Practical Shooting Association is a non-profit membership association and the governing body for the sport of Practical Shooting in America. USPSA has nearly 18,000 members and more than 350 affiliated clubs which host weekly matches throughout the country providing recreational shooters with the opportunity to test and refine their shooting skills in a safe, competitive environment. USPSA is also the US Region of the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC), which is comprised of approximately 67 nations. For more information, visit www.uspsa.org.
